Martin P. Durkin Lifetime Achievement Award is awarded to Local 488 Edmonton AB Rigging Instructor
Aug 16, 2012

Clark Cruickshank of UA Local 488 in Edmonton Alberta was the recipient of the Martin P. Durkin Lifetime Achievement Award presented at the graduation ceremony of the United Association Instructor Training Program in Ann Arbor Michigan on August 16, 2012. The award is presented once a year to the most outstanding UA educator in the United States and Canada, which operates over 300 local apprenticeship training programs and has over 340,000 Journeyperson and Apprentice members. The Durkin award honours individuals who have devoted their lives to training and educating United Association members and whose commitment to the UA and to training is determined to be extraordinary.

Clark Cruickshank has been delivering training in rigging for many years including developing and implementing the EPRI Rigging Certification program in both Ann Arbor and his home local of Edmonton. Clark has trained thousands of workers in his time as an instructor and continues to do so now, just finishing up a course in Ann Arbor at the Instructor Training Program and continuing to deliver training at home for Local 488 in Edmonton Alberta.
The Durkin award was named for the UA General President Martin P. Durkin who was the guiding force behind the creation of the Instructor Training Program. Over 60 years ago, when he was working to establish this program, he had a vision for what he believed could become a powerful force to build the organization, and that was the origin of the UA Instructor Training Program. In 1998 when it was first decided to recognize lifetime accomplishments of individuals involved in training for the UA, the award was placed in the name of this outstanding General President, who understood the importance of the preparation of instructors and teachers who would have the responsibility of preparing future generations of UA Journeypersons for the future.
