UA Canada 2012 Apprenticeship Competitions
Apr 5, 2012

Larry Slaney, Director of Canadian Training for the United Association has announced that Local 46 in Scarborough Ontario will be hosting the 2012 UA National Apprenticeship Competition. This national event is the final part in a series of UA regional apprentice competitions to be held for the Western, Central and Eastern regions of Canada. Candidates will be drawn from across Canada to compete in the national event once they have qualified in the regional events, to produce the best apprentices in their respective trades to compete in Scarborough. Apprentices will complete in theoretical and practical skills events for five major trades areas representing UA pipe trades including Steamfitter-Pipefitter, Plumber, Refrigeration Mechanic, Sprinkler Systems Installer, and Welder. This will continue with an International event to be held in Ann Arbor Michigan which has Apprentices competing from across North America to compete for top honours. These events are to be held in conjunction with the National Association of Union Schools and Colleges (NAUSC) in an effort to promote skilled trades careers in Canada.

These competitions are proof of the UA’s ongoing commitment to lifelong learning for its members and training in order to provide skilled workers to our industry partner clients owners and contractors. Showcasing the talents of our apprentices to the industry and recognizing their skills is an integral component of our Standard for Excellence program. This is a great opportunity to demonstrate the skills of UA apprentices from across Canada and the United States, and also to reinforce the message that we believe UA trades people are the best trained workers in the piping industry in North America.
